A DIFFERENT point of view

On RADICAL POSITIVITY

written by Marc Lefebvre - Last Updated on JuLy 23, 2024

Have you noticed how there’s so much content that is just served “en masse“? Like a sloppy joe day at your local cafeteria, just slopped down on your tray with no love. It’s the practice of feeding yourself, but dehumanized and extended to too many people at once to make something tasty.

There’s a few clashes that I’m noticing in Linkedin that interests me:

  • A clash of meaning (what’s work, what’s value, what’s an interesting opinion?)
  • A massive rise of “faux-content” which has been chewed, built off others, and served room temperature. The lowest possible quality at the biggest scale possible.
  • Oh and the most difficult one? Clashes of different generations values, reference points and valuation.

But the main one that I have noticed is that we’ve forgotten a bit the “expertise” part of our domain. In the last 20 years, the lessons we’ve all accepted is that; a fast growth at all cost. I’ve seen art directors with two years of experience in the field. I’ve seen creative directors who have zero experience and got there because of their daddy… Pardon my french, but that’s super fucked. You have heavily under-experienced senior people going into position where they promise the moon and deliver terrible results (*cough* Twitter/X anyone? *cough*)

As someone who has endless creativity, care, and dedication to my field, it feels so wrong to see these weird leaps in logic. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why it happens, but we have definitely lost a bit of our stable foot and everything is a bit upside down. Suddently, the marketing word play is applied everywhere (remember the “Made with 100% real fruit juice… which contained no fruit? Or Shrinkflation? Or enshitification?)

So, as an effort to promote a counter tendency, here’s what type of content I will put out there:

  • Radical Positivity (see below – For the next 4 weeks i’ll try to write about this )
  • Honesty, sustainable and valuable growth
  • Let the Right Ones In (next month!)

Different & Kind Entrepreneurs

The Dark Days

Keywords: Radical Positivity, Kindness, Entrepreneurial Journey, Authenticity, Trust, Relationships, Gratitude, Joy

I remember a not-so-long-ago time when everything felt heavy and wrong. Feeling the world is on fire and there’s no hope to meet tomorrow.

Despite working with a passion in my field for nearly twenty years, I often felt like my loving efforts were not building valuable and noticed results.

Instead, I was helping others complete goals, fulfilling specific needs here and there but never with a true connection and long term support/care. And this stretches beyond my profesionnal career… for example; My art career has seemed stuck, my mind was racing with a thousand scenarios, and I just couldn’t see a way out. Everyone is yelling and crying on social media which let’s be honest, turns off even the most determined reader. It fills your head with fear and anguish. It feels like there’s no room left to move or to be noticed…

It’s a VERY familiar story for many creatives and entrepreneurs, isn’t it?

The constant hustle, the anxiety, the feeling of being in the dark. I need to create, to better things and to participate in making a better world… how come everything I do doesn’t give me that feeling then?

But then, something clicked.

The Lightbulb Moment

In the midst of all this chaos, I realized that the one thing I could control was how I approached my work and my interactions with others. I decided to embrace radical positivity and kindness. I found inspiration in the book “What’s Next is Now” which put words to concepts I already knew but made them clearer and easier to understand. It wasn’t an overnight transformation, but bit by bit, it changed everything.

Why Kindness?

You might be thinking, “Okay, that’s cute, but how does kindness help my business?” Well, let me tell you.

Kindness builds trust, and trust builds relationships. Whether it’s with clients, partners, or your community, people are drawn to genuine positivity. It sets you apart in a world that’s often cynical and cutthroat.

Practical Tips for Building a Kind Business

  • Be Authentic: Show your true self in your interactions. People can spot fake positivity from a mile away. Be honest, be real, and don’t be afraid to show a little vulnerability.
  • Listen Actively: When you’re talking to a client or a partner, really listen. Make them feel heard and valued. It’s amazing how much goodwill you can build just by truly listening.
  • Spread Joy: Find little ways to make someone’s day better. It could be a kind word, a thank you note, or even a humorous meme (hey, a little Deadpool humor never hurt anyone).
  • Practice Gratitude: Take time to appreciate the good things in your business journey. Gratitude can shift your mindset and help you stay positive even when things get tough.

Embracing kindness and radical positivity doesn’t mean ignoring the hard parts of running a business. It means facing them with a different attitude. It’s about finding the silver lining and turning challenges into opportunities for growth. And trust me, it’s a game-changer.

What’s Next?

I firmly believe there’s a possibility for something amazing to happen when you infuse your business with kindness.

It might not happen overnight, but with patience and persistence, you’ll start to see the impact.

People will remember you for how you made them feel, and that’s a powerful thing.

On First Tries

I don’t know about you, but I often feel content fatigue.

I LOVE reading, learning, and getting new knowledge, but holy shirt the web has been already inundated with very cheap content spit out by ChatGPT or by building algorithms of the “most popular.”

Now, I’m all for maximizing results within a sustainable, healthy way, but AI stuff ain’t it…
